Demmon was found to already be in custody in Aiken County, South Carolina after an incident days earlier. According to WYFF-TV, deputies there found a vehicle blocking a road and Demmon walking around, acting erratically. Authorities said the Jeep belonged to Xiong.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills told WMAZ-TV that investigators found a bloody chainsaw in the back of the Jeep.

Demmon was later charged with malice murder.

According to WMAZ-TV, several Middle Georgia sheriffs are familiar with Demmon. His arrest record includes cases in Baldwin, Jones and Putnam counties.

Authorities are investigating what led up to the killing.
