ATLANTA — Gas prices are higher than they’ve been in years throughout metro Atlanta.
According to Triple A, the highest average price ever was $4.11 back in 2008.
But several area stations exceeded that price, like one in Marietta, where gas was $4.29 a gallon on Saturday.
“It was quite a dent in the pocketbook, but we’re still going to have vacations,” a driver told Channel 2 Action News.
As of Sunday, Triple A said the average price per gallon in metro Atlanta is $3.86 - up 28 cents from last year.
Research shows gas prices typically jump every spring because it’s the time of year when oil refineries slow down production to repair equipment. So production decreases, while gas prices rise.
For the last 12 years since the year 2000, Channel 2 Action News has seen a spike at the pumps every year from February to late May.
The average increase is 27 cents per gallon.
