Ga. Tech police step up patrols after dorm room armed robbery

ATLANTA — Police at Georgia Tech are stepping up their efforts after someone robbed a student inside a dorm room.

The student told Channel 2 he woke up to find a gun pointed at him inside the North Avenue Apartments east building.

Georgia Tech police said they are very concerned about the crime because it did not happen on the outskirts of campus, but on campus in a dorm room.

There are three layers of security to get into the building, but early Sunday morning, 20-year-old Taylor Kelly said he woke up to the sound of two men tampering with his laptop.

Kelly told Channel 2 he questioned them, but one of the men pointed a gun at his head and told him to shut up or he would be shot.

"I asked him, 'Can I at least put on some pants?' And they took my pants and ran out of the room. They made sure they grabbed my cellphone before they left, so they knew what they wanted. They wanted the phone, the laptop. They got them and they split," Kelly said.

Kelly said he was not hurt, but he was pretty shaken up.

Georgia Tech police announced Monday morning they may have identified a suspect. They are holding a news conference at 3 p.m.
