New construction project begins for drivers who use Ga. 400 in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — There is a new major construction project that will eventually save commuters time driving south on Georgia 400.

The project begins today on a new cloverleaf interchange at Ga. 400 and Browns Bridge Road in Forsyth County.

Drivers say this area is known for backups. They say it gets really bad at rush hour in the morning, but especially afternoons.

Groundbreaking happens this morning, and the county and Georgia Department of Transportation begins a massive makeover widening the highway, while adding a new bridge for a partial cloverleaf interchange.

“It could possibly help it a lot,” one driver said.

Although, not all drivers are optimistic about the traffic changes.

“That won’t help at all. It just backs up all the time,” another driver said.

The $58 million project will take an estimated 36 months to complete, so drivers will have to get used to construction here for the next three years.

But the county’s communications director says they’ll try to limit impacts and lane closures, especially during the busy commute.

“They try not to have southbound lane closures in the morning when more people going that way. And try not to have northbound closures in the afternoons,” said Karen Shields, Forsyth County spokesperson.

Forsyth County will post updates on its social media alerting drivers of any changes.
