Fired Henry Co. officer gets record cleared, $20K settlement

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — An officer once fired over her alleged role in a sex scandal will have the firing wiped off her record.

Erin Hudgins was once voted by her peers as the 2012 Rookie of the Year, but her attorney says the former officer's tenure ended with a settlement.

"We believe that it means that we were right all along, that it was improper to fire her," attorney Steve Frey said.

According to the agreement obtained by Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne, Hudgins will receive a payment of $21,000.

"Her post history will be cleared and she will no longer be operating under the stigma of having been fired," Frey said.

The settlement document indicates Hudgins' departure  will now be considered a voluntary resignation. It also indicates  she will receive $21,000 in back pay and money for insurance costs.

"She's excited about her career and she's moving forward," Frey said.

Last fall, Hudgins told Winne she had intimate contact with a field training officer and a sergeant. She said that was the most serious allegation that led to her firing, while the two men were suspended for one week and demoted.

Frey said part of the settlement is that the county does not admit wrongdoing in the firing.
