Woman, 2 dogs die in Johns Creek house fire

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors say a woman was killed after an early morning fire ripped through a Johns Creek home Monday.

Neighbors told Channel 2 Action News they were awakened by sirens around 6 a.m.

Johns Creek Fire Marshal Chad McGiboney confirmed the fire was at 125 Summer Crest Court.

Fire officials also said two dogs did not make it out of the house.

Neighbors said the victim, identified as Debra Ann “Dusty” Segars, 59, was a woman who touched many in the area.

“She was a great lady, a single lady. She was a hairdresser and had a salon in her house. So she touched a lot of people in the area. She had been here more than 20 years,” neighbor Kim Dean.

Dean said Segars lived herself.

“There's a bunch of kids in the neighborhood and they would all play  down there, and she was always just out there having fun with them playing in the pool. She cut all their hair so most of them would go down there for their haircut,” said neighbor Gary Lucero.

Officials say the fire began in the living room but authorities are still investigating the fire.

Authorities say this is the first fire-related death in John's Creek this year.
