Fire damages 11 homes in Stockbridge subdivision

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Eleven homes in Henry County were damaged by fire Saturday, with at least five destroyed, after flames broke out at one residence and spread to the others, fire officials said.

The fires occurred in the Flippen Woods subdivision in Stockbridge, near Watercress Court and Goldenrod Drive. The tops of several of the two-story homes were completely gutted, according to photos provided by Channel 2's Carl Willis.

Fire officials said the high temperatures and low humidity made the challenge of fighting the fires more difficult. The cause of the blaze, however, had not been determined.

Temperatures reached a high of 106 degrees Saturday in metro Atlanta.

Some of the damaged homes suffered from radiant heat.

One person was transported to the hospital, but the extent of injuries were not immediately available. Channel 2's Carl Willis reported there was a concern that a child was still in one of the residences, but the child was found safe.

Fire officials were expected to be on the scene for several hours into Saturday evening, putting out hot spots.
