ATLANTA — Federal agents and local law enforcement raided an apartment complex Thursday as part of an ongoing effort to take down the "open-air" drug markets in Atlanta's notorious "Bluff" in Northwest Atlanta.
As drug dogs barked, dozens of federal agents with the ATF and FBI surrounded the apartment complex at Cameron Alexander Boulevard and Sunset Avenue.
A spokesperson for the ATF said they executed three search warrants, as part of their ongoing Drug Market Intervention Initiative. Three people, including two women, were arrested.
"It is ugly, it is just really ugly, that is all I can say it is real ugly," said Cathy Williams, as she watched.
The GBI reports drug overdoses from heroin increasing drastically in the last few years.
Channel 2 Action News has reported people as young as high schoolers flocking from suburbs to pick up drugs in the English Avenue neighborhood.
Investigators seized heroin and cocaine. They were also looking for guns, according to officials.
"I'm happy they are cleaning it up and everything," said Williams.
