Dunwoody police investigating suspicious death

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Dunwoody police are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death.

A person was found dead Monday morning at The Barclay at Dunwoody Apartments, located at 4580 Barclay Drive.

Family members told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik their loved one was the victim.

The victim is Ja'Ron Acklin, 24, of Decatur. His family said he was a single father to a 2-year-old daughter.

"We hadn't heard from him in a couple of days so the young lady that works over here is my best friend, and I had just had the maintenance man go in and check on him since we hadn't heard from him," the victim’s aunt, Denise Blount Goggans, said. "The maintenance man said that when he entered, his hands were tied behind his back and he was not alive. He was dead.”

Relatives believe Acklin was murdered.

“Everybody loved him, and you know, we just want to catch whoever got him, whoever did it. We want to get some justice behind it,” the victim’s uncle, Terry Blount, said.

Dunwoody police have not confirmed any details surrounding what they found, but they are calling Acklin’s death suspicious.

“Officers responded to the location and found a victim lying inside, deceased,” Officer Trey Nelsons said. “We’re investigating the death, and the medical examiner’s officer has been called in for cause and manner.”

Police are asking anyone with information on the death to call them.
