Cops: 3 kids injured in car wash crash

ATLANTA — A man faces reckless driving charges after hitting three children at a car wash in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon.

Police said 34-year-old Jose Mena drove his 1995 Green Ford Taurus onto the property at 1932 Metropolitan Parkway to wash his car. Atlanta police said he was not paying attention to where he was going and struck the three children in the parking lot.

Grady emergency crews took the children to Egleston Hospital, where they are being treated for minor injuries.

Police said Mena wasn't supposed to be driving because he dosen't have a license.

Channel 2 crews were on the scene as police towed the Taurus he was driving. The car had a badly-cracked windshield from the car wash crash.

Special Cobb told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri she saw the police activity at the car wash, but didn't realize children were hurt.

"I think that's crazy. I don't understand how the windshield is broken. If we're at a car wash, you shouldn't be going that fast to even hit them," Cobb said.  "

Referencing Mena's alleged absence of a license, Cobb said he shouldn't have been driving.

"I'm glad he got arrested and got caught. I hope the kids are OK," added Cobb.

Mena is being held at the Atlanta jail.
