Family members say civil rights activist Dr. Joseph Lowery is recovering after he slipped and fell in a hotel room.
Relatives say Lowery suffered a hip fracture when he fell Sunday in Santa Barbara, California.
According to a family statement, Lowery was in town attending a gala held by Oprah Winfrey, “Celebrating SELMA and the Legends Who Paved the Way.”
Lowery underwent a successful surgery Monday and is resting comfortably and receiving rehabilitation.
