DEKALB Co., GA — A man is in the hospital after a shooting outside Publix in DeKalb County.
Investigators said they were called to the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway and Fellowship Road for a reported shooting around 9 p.m. Monday.

When they arrived, they found a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Around the same time, police said they were sent to a shots fired call at the Publix in Tucker, where they detained a man they said was involved in the shooting.
The man involved in the shooting was a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy, according to Chief Randy Akies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was working an off duty job at Publix.
The off duty deputy was checking out an argument in the parking lot when someone started shooting.

The deputy also fired shots, according to Chief Akies. One person was hit during the gunfire.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
