ATLANTA — A Federal Aviation Administration system failure caused airlines across the United States to delay or cancel thousands of flights.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is waiving any fare differences for passengers who had to change their flights on Wednesday.

The waiver even applies to passengers whose trips weren’t impacted by the ground stop.
The airline said the ticket must be reissued on or before Jan. 13 to get the waiver. More information can be found on Delta’s website.

“As of 11 a.m. EST, Delta is working to safely recover more than 30 diversions and has had no choice but to cancel more than 130 Delta and Delta connection flights after all other options were exhausted. Potential for additional delays and cancels continue,” the airline said.
Delta said it apologizes for the inconvenience and is working with the FAA to prevent further congestion at airports and to ensure it has enough available gates.
