DeKalb solicitor general says corruption will be focus of campaign for DA

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — One of metro Atlanta’s highest profile district attorneys will face opposition from another prosecutor in the next election.

DeKalb Solicitor General Sherry Boston’s campaign manager said Boston will run against current DeKalb District Attorney Robert James for the job in the Democratic primary in May.

“It’s a big deal. It’s going to be a big race,” said Kelli Hill, who confirmed she worked on some of James’ biggest cases when she was chief trial assistant D.A.

Campaign manager Fred Hicks said Boston plans to make the handling of corruption in DeKalb County a central issue in the race.

“I would hope that both candidates would have corruption as a high priority whichever platform they run on because it’s important in DeKalb County,” Hill said.

Hicks will hold a news conference about the announcement Wednesday morning.

“Both of these individuals have a track record that the voters are going to be able to look at,” DeKalb defense lawyer Keith Adams said.

James told Channel 2 Action News by phone, “I am busy doing the people’s work. There’s a lot of work to be done.”

He said he doesn’t plan on saying much more until he hears what Boston or any other candidate has to say.

Hicks noted that in 2011, the governor appointed Boston to replace James as Solicitor General after James ran for D.A. She won the election as Solicitor General on the democratic ticket in 2012.

Hicks said democrat state senator Elena Parent, who replaced Jason Carter when he vacated his seat to run for governor, will chair Boston’s campaign.

James said his focus right now is on the safety and well-being of DeKalb County’s people and the integrity of DeKalb’s government.
