DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News is working with the Atlanta Police Foundation to help solve crimes in your neighborhood and bring closure to victims and their families.
Channel 2′s Darryn Moore went to DeKalb County to talk with a grieving mother who has been canvassing the area and talking with people for years trying to find out who killed her son.
This is a Crime Stoppers case, and police told us they have no leads or information. The mother of Tyrese Washington has now started her own detective work at an apartment complex where someone murdered her son.
Washington was 24 years old when someone shot and killed him at the Polo Club Apartments in Stone Mountain.
DeKalb County police have yet to find out why someone wanted him dead.
“No one is thinking about my son. He’s been dead two years in August. No one’s thinking about it anymore,” said Washington’s mother, Latrice Cushion.
Cushion started investigating her son’s murder and tracked down the last person who saw him alive.
“He’s the one that told me he was with my son when he passed,” Cushion said. “He ran because he didn’t know what was going on.”

Nine days after our interview, she gathered family and friends and went to the apartment complex where someone killed her son near the playground.
The group walked the parking putting fliers on cars.
“We’re going to hope someone sees my son’s face, sees the $12,000 reward, which $10,000 is my family’s money, and $2,000 from Crime Stoppers,” Cushion said.
She won’t give up until her son’s killer is caught.
“My son wasn’t in gangs. My son didn’t have a criminal record. My son was a good person,” Cushion said.
This case is still active.
If you have any information on Washington’s murder, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS. You don’t have to give your name to cash in on the reward.
