Man killed in shooting at DeKalb County gas station

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Surveillance video shows the moments before investigators say a man was shot and killed in a gas station parking lot.

Witnesses told Channel 2's Lauren Pozen that two men pulled in to get gas and then went inside.

What happened after that led to one of those men dying in the middle of the Citgo station’s parking lot.

Police said two men drove in the same car to the gas station off Interstate 20 and Columbia Drive.

A gas station clerk told Pozen that one of the men bought gas with an ATM card, then they both came inside the store to buy drinks.

“They walked in to buy something. A few seconds later, I heard a sound of pop and that’s it,” the clerk told Pozen, asking not to be identified. “We just heard a gunshot and saw people running outside and I called the cops.”

Police said a 24-year-old man was shot.

“The person fell out of the vehicle and the vehicle drove off,” the clerk said.

Police are now searching for that driver.

The clerk told Pozen that he heard the men were friends.

“I didn’t hear any kind of argument or any kind of warning, no fights,” the clerk said.

The shooting happened next to a day care. No children were hurt in the incident, but staff told Pozen they heard the gunshot.
