Well-known chain restaurant in Newton County fails health inspection

A well-known chain restaurant in Newton County has failed its health inspection.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill on Highway 278 in Covington failed an inspection with a score of 64 on Feb. 4

Applebee’s is a franchise restaurant chain that started in the 1980s.
There are several thousand Applebee’s restaurants in the country.
One nearby resident says if she saw the 64 at the Covington Applebee's, she probably wouldn’t eat there.
Violations that led to the failure included the person in charge not portraying food safety responsibilities, employees not washing hands properly and a worker handling raw chicken, then changing gloves to handle other food without washing their hands.
No one at the restaurant would talk to Channel 2 Action News about the violations.
We did notice the current score of 64 was not posted, which is required.
One customer says that it is a total violation if the current score is not posted.
The Covington Applebee’s was inspected twice last year. Both times the restaurant got scores in the 80s, which are “B"s.
Upon reinspection, the restaurant scored an 88.
