ATLANTA — You’ve heard about wonderful organizations giving things to frontline workers like food, face masks and more.
But what about shoes?
Channel 2′s Audrey Washington learned that doctors, nurses, EMTs and others on the front line have to wear specific footwear for their long shifts.
Now, Fleet Feet in Peachtree City is outfitting those workers with shoes for free.
“Everyone has been talking about face masks, food or compression socks, but you still see a need that nurses have been posting on online forums," Brent Huntley with Fleet Feet said.
When Huntley realized the long, grueling shifts front line workers were faced with, he knew what he had to do.
“At the end of the day their feet are extremely tired," Huntley said. “Especially during this pandemic that were in. Nurses have been working more than ever before.”
Huntely has been working with one of his vendors to provide more than 200 pairs of brand new athletic shoes for all front line workers free of charge.
“Our goal is to get these people who can use these shoes for their shifts, day to day, into the most comfortable pair of shoes they’ve ever had," Huntley said.
Huntley said all front line workers have to do is stop by Fleet Feet, show their current badge and then pick up a pair of shoes. The giveaway is open to anyone from metro Atlanta.
Huntley said the company is also taking small donations to help local food banks in the area.
