Woman says thieves stole car while she was still pumping gas

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman told Channel 2 Action News she is scared because thieves have her purse with her ID, address and keys. They stole it, along with her car, from a Cobb County gas station last Thursday.

On Feb. 21, Tynice Shahid said her car was stolen at the RaceTrac on South Cobb Drive while she was pumping gas. It happened around 9 p.m., and Shahid told Channel 2's Kristen Holloway the crime happened so fast.

“I was pumping the gas and I realized I need something out of the store, so I went into the store, and when I came out of the store, two minutes later, my car was gone,” Shahid said.

A surveillance picture shows a man getting out of a silver Jeep before taking off in Shahid's red Nissan Altima.

“They took off when the gas pump (was) still in the car,” Shahid said.

Shahid said she left the keys in the middle console.

“It had my driver’s license, my debit card, my work ID, my work keys,” Shahid said.

“In my mind, I’m thinking some of that stuff could’ve been my stuff ‘cause it was less than a mile away from (the) scene, as well,” Shahid said.

Shahid said she thinks the crooks used her car to commit other crimes.

“When I looked into the window, I seen that they had tools all over the back seat, they had chargers. It was a whole bunch of stuff in my car that did not belong to me,” Shahid said.

She said there were also fast food bags and cups inside.

“I’m hoping that Cobb County can run forensics off the fast food that was found in my car so they can find the person who stole my car so maybe they catch all the people involved,” Shahid said.

Holloway checked with APD and they told her Shahid's tag is not connected to other crimes in their jurisdiction. She’s still waiting to hear back from Cobb County police.

Shahid said she learned a hard lesson and will be locking her doors when she pumps gas from now on.
