COBB COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The ordinance changes that would essentially accommodate Adventures Outdoor in Smryna to add a drive-in movie theatre to the front of its store were removed from the agenda by the council in a 5-0 vote at tonight’s council meeting. The motion was made by Councilman Charles Welch. No reference to revisit the issue was made tonight.

Adventure Outdoors owner Jay Wallace wants to add a drive-in theater to the front of his business, but a local group of protesters are not in favor of the move.
Smart Smyrna, a local group against the move say they feel the process is being fast tracked.

“To go about this the way that they have is unfortunate,” said Shaun Martin. “Smryna deserves more.”
The theater, Wallace said will include a 59-feet wide video board with movies he described as family classics.
Viewing would be free to the community and that would be his way of giving back to the community, Wallace said.

“The firearms industry used to be part of the family. Part of the community. We are bringing that back,” he said.
Smart Smyrna members do not agree and have involved lawyers to keep the video board and drive-in theater from happening.

“They have circumvented the variance process and have gone directly to the city to change a sweeping ordinance that would allow these signs this size per the requirement,” Martin said.
