MARIETTA, Ga. — With many losing their jobs because of the pandemic, people across the city are dealing with hunger and lack of food.
In Marietta, a local church and nonprofit have partnered together to try to help.
The Episcopal Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul partnered with There’s Hope for the Hungry to give free food for those in need.
The first Tuesday of every month, folks can come by the church and pick enough food to last four people at least two weeks. Volunteers distributing the food are following safety guidelines to ensure there is no spread of COVID-19.
“We used to bring them inside the church to get their box of food, now every person drives up and the box is placed in the trunk of the car,” said Tom Martin, head of Outreach Services for the church.

Volunteers were on hand to serve as cars lined up to receive the food donation.
“This aligns with our mission of growing in Jesus Christ and creating an environment for others to know Jesus. We feel very strongly about outreach and providing others their needs,” Martin said.
This isn’t something that started with the pandemic, but it has become more important than ever with the number of people struggling today. The Episcopal Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and There’s Hope for the Hungry have been feeding those in need for about a year and a half.
