COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A community came together for a high school student seriously injured in a game of bubble soccer. The 18-year-old suffered a brain injury after colliding with a teammate.
The family of Salvador "Chava" Reyes, 18, says he is speaking from his hospital bed at Kennestone Hospital.
The Campbell High School senior and soccer captain suffered a brain injury a week ago during a game of bubble soccer.
On Sunday, a community fundraiser at Campbell High School brought out supporters to help pay for medical expenses and to support Reyes and his family through a difficult time.
"I know a lot of times it's hard for us to be patient, but with things like this we don't really have any control. So that's all we can be is just patient." sister Ruby Reyes said.
Kids who were on the field when Reyes was hurt say the whole point of bubble soccer is to be safe.
"Nobody knew how to react," student Angel Gonzalez said. "It was a hard hit."
