Video shows brutal attack of teen at Clayton County high school

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga — The parents of a teenager brutally attacked at school by another student say he could have been killed.

The attack was recorded and in the video shared on social media, you see the victim forcefully slammed to the ground and punched, even while unconscious.

Parents of the Mundy Mill High student say the school totally mishandled this.

“I mean, he could have actually killed him. The way he slammed him,” Anthony Brooks, the victim’s father, told Channel 2′s Tom Jones.

The boy’s mother says the video is difficult for her to watch.

“You know it was just so disturbing. I don’t want to watch it,” she said.

The parents say their 16-year-old son was leaving lunch when another student sneaked up behind him, picked him up and forcefully slammed him to the floor.

“He looked like a straight doll. Like he, I mean, he was so limp. He just looked like a doll,” Ramirez said.

Brooks says after his son was slammed to the floor and briefly knocked unconscious, the attack continued.

An instructor tried to intervene, but the attack continued.

The parents say no one called them about the attack. And the school didn’t call an ambulance.

Their son suffered a fractured clavicle. The broken bone is protruding from his shoulder. Doctors say it could be trouble if it breaks the skin. Or if it moves towards his lungs, the father said. The parents say their son is in severe pain. They want their son’s attacker to pay.

“That young man needs to go to jail. He acted out like a grown man. He needs to be treated like a grown man,” the father said.

The parents say the student has been charged. But they don’t know if he’s being charged as a juvenile or an adult. And they don’t know the charges he faces.

They say the student who recorded the video should also face consequences.

The school sent a statement about the incident to Channel 2 late Thursday afternoon.

“Greetings Tigers, I just wanted to acknowledge an incident which occurred on Friday, August 12, which you might hear or see about on the news upon being alerted about the incident. The school followed standard follow-up protocol in this matter. Our administrators have followed the appropriate recourse for handling this matter in alignment with the Clayton County public school student handbook and code of conduct. Thanks and have a great evening,” the school said.
