COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A former Coweta County deputy has been formally charged with multiple counts of child molestation and enticing a minor.
A grand jury indicted Deputy Michael McGuffey on Wednesday, according to court documents obtained by Channel 2 Action News.
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Channel 2’s Ashlyn Webb that his last post was as a school resource officer. The school district told Webb his last job was at Smokey Road Middle School over a year ago.

The investigation into McGuffey started on April 3, 2025 when the sheriff’s office received an anonymous tip about the deputy. The complaint accused McGuffey of making “inappropriate comments” to female students and texting with one of them.
He was placed on administrative leave the next day and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the case.
McGuffey later resigned from the sheriff’s office on April 29, 2025.
The former deputy turned himself in to the Coweta County Jail on Thursday following Wednesday’s indictment. Channel 2 Action News has requested his booking photo.
The indictment did not indicate if the victim was a Coweta County student.
