GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The mother of a 1-year-old boy who died after spending nine hours in a hot car will be allowed to attend his funeral while she faces a murder charge.
Deja Coleman’s attorney, Tom Ford, said the sheriff’s office, the court and the prosecutor met Friday and all allowed her to attend.
Ford said he requested she be allowed to be at the service in civilian clothes and not handcuffed.
He added the sheriff’s office was given discretion in making those decisions.
Coleman had been trying to get out of jail in time for his funeral this weekend, after her attorney’s attempt to trade away the murder count failed in court Tuesday.

The 29-year-old has been held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail since her arrest July 29.
Arrest warrants charge her with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children and say she left the boy.
Daniel Coleman was in a locked vehicle for hours while she worked a shift at a Lawrenceville hospital.
Ford has said she cared for two other older children and was up all night as the baby was teething and severely lacking sleep.
