CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has confirmed that the Morrow police chief has been fired after less than five months on the job.
Melvin Douglas Jr. was fired Thursday morning, according to city of Morrow's Interim City Manager Sylvia Redic. Redic says she could not disclose why Douglas was terminated from his position. But Morrow councilman Larry Ferguson says that Redic did not want Douglas on the job because he wasn't the best fit.
Channel 2's Jessica Jaglois spoke to Ferguson on Thursday.
Ferguson told he that he knew about the termination before it was announced.
Redic mentioned to Jaglois she had an interview to become permanent city manager on Thursday, and the timing of her interview and Douglas' termination was a coincidence.
Douglas was appointed as Morrow police chief in late August 2014.
Redic says Capt. Greg Tatroe will serve as Morrow’s interim police chief until the search for a new police chief begins.
Three experienced officers left shortly after Douglas took office, officials said.
