Cam Newton's high school coach talks about Super Bowl

ATLANTA — "He was destined to be a quarterback."

That's what high school football coach Dallas Allen said about NFL quarterback and Georgia native Cam Newton.

Allen was Newton’s high school football coach when Cam played for Westlake High School in south Fulton County.

He said they talked right before this year's football season.

"(He said,) ‘Coach, I'm looking up to you, you know.’ I patted him on the back and I said, ‘I thank you for allowing me to spend that time with you in high school and coach you,’" Allen said.

Allen is now a football coach at Atlanta's Douglass High School. Channel 2 Action News caught up with him on Signing Day, when a new generation of high school football players announced where they will play college football. He says some of them, like Cam, may one day go on to the NFL.

“Those guys walking across that stage are about to have the most fun of their lives. And who knows, you might find two or three more playing in the Super Bowl four years from now,” he said.

Allen predicted the Panthers will win the big game by 17 points on Sunday. He sealed that prediction with a dab, Newton’s signature dance move.

Newton still holds a football clinic at Westlake each summer.
