ATLANTA — Deputies told Channel 2 Action News they had no choice but to shock a murder suspect with a stun gun as he attacked another inmate in the Fulton County Jail.
Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne obtained video of the incident that jailers say was a random act.
The incident happened in a holding cell next to the fingerprint station.
Video shows Raylon Browning clench the fingers of one hand into a fist and punch a fellow inmate four times in the face.
“I was standing in this area and then he just randomly started to attack this gentleman,” Detention Officer Kenya Brooks, with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, told Winne. “Then I deployed my Taser.”
Sgt. Robert Grady said he rushed across the room once the melee erupted and Brooks' quick action may have saved the inmate Browning allegedly punched from further harm.
“It was totally unprovoked,” Grady said.

Documents indicate Browning was charged with murder in the shooting of Trinh Huynh, who was walking across the street on the way to work.
Browning has also been charged with aggravated assault in the knifing of two others and a misdemeanor simple battery charge in the jail incident.
“For him pouncing on the gentleman unprovoked,” Grady said.
Public defender's office supervisor Liz Markowitz indicated to Winne days ago that she anticipated a not-guilty plea to all charges Browning faces.
Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Paige said in the first incident officers took Browning to the medical unit where Paige was summoned after Browning had bitten into his own arm.
"I observed him actually biting himself and running in place as if he were trying to get the heart rate up apparently to try to make himself bleed out," Paige told Winne.
Paige said he and other officers put on Hazmat suits to enter the cell and restrain Browning, but he resisted efforts to possibly save his life, so Paige said he used his Taser on Browning.
