ATLANTA — There is a little less than one month left to apply for financial assistance through FEMA if you experienced damage due to Hurricane Helene.
As the deadline approaches, Channel 2 is learning that the total number of households that need help continues to climb.
FEMA officials tell Channel 2′s Brittany Kleinpeter that the destruction from Hurricane Helene goes far beyond what you can see on the surface with repair costs now exceeding $246 million.

Over 190,000 households in Georgia have been approved for aid so far in the past two months since Hurricane Helene hit.
“There’s always tree damage and a lot of flooding when it rains like it rained during that storm,” FEMA spokesperson Debra Young said.
Disaster relief teams are making sure residents know there’s still time to apply for assistance.
“There are always people who think there’s not enough damage to their home or that other people may need the assistance more than they need but that’s not the case. We want everyone that has had some kind of damage or losses to register,” Young said.
The deadline to register for FEMA assistance is January 7.
