Police release surveillance video in shooting outside JR Crickets

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are asking for the public's help in identifying the man involved in a shootout at a restaurant near the Georgia State University campus. In a news conference Wednesday, they released new surveillance video.

Investigators say he is the fourth shooter in a shootout that started outside the J.R. Crickets last month. They don't know how he is connected to the other three suspects, but they say surveillance video shows he shot an innocent bystander.

Police say an argument led to the shooting on Feb. 24. All of the people involved were injured.

Inside the restaurant, police say the man in the surveillance video pulled his gun and started shooting outside through the windows. But they say he also shot and injured an innocent bystander near the bar.

"When the shooting started, he produced a handgun, and he started shooting outside of the establishment, and he also shot an individual in the back inside the establishment," said Atlanta police Lt. Carben Tyus. "Once the shooting was over, that individual holstered his weapon and left that location."

Two of the shooters are in custody and police have identified the third. Because it doesn’t seem the man in the video had any relationship to them, and the victims were busy tending to the chaos and their own injuries, nobody have been able to give police a name.

“So, we’re seeking the public’s help in getting this fourth individual identified so we can get him off the street and bring some closure to this case,” Tyus said.

Atlanta police have two suspects in custody, another who has been identified and is being located, and then the man in the new surveillance video.
