ATLANTA — A train in southwest Atlanta hit and killed a person on Thursday morning.
Norfolk Southern confirmed that around 4:20 a.m., a “trespasser” was hit by a train in the area of Ralph Abernathy Boulevard and West Whitehall Street.

Officials confirmed that the victim was dead. Their identity has not been released.

“No matter the circumstances, any loss of life is a tragedy – our thoughts are with the family of this person during this difficult time,” Norfolk Statement said in a statement to Channel 2 Action News. “We would be remiss if we didn’t say that train tracks are simply no place for the public. Train tracks can be uniquely dangerous places that always beg extra care to ensure everyone’s safety.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
