Midtown Chinese restaurant gets a 33 on health inspection

There were more than two dozen violations. They included employee handling food with bare hands, food held greater than the required 41 degrees Fahrenheit, some food not held hot enough and failure to wash and properly sanitize containers and pans.

ATLANTA — UPDATE: Upon re-inspection, the Chinese Buddha received a score of 85.

A popular midtown Atlanta restaurant near Georgia Tech has failed its second health inspection this year.

From egg rolls to curry shrimp, Chinese Buddha on 10th Street has an extensive menu.

Customer Elizabeth Darmoh told Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge that the food is good and that she was just there a few days ago.

On the latest inspection on Nov. 3, Chinese Buddha only got a 33.

That was a shock to Darmoh, who decided to ask for her a refund on her take-out food.

There were more than two dozen violations. They included employee handling food with bare hands, food held greater than the required 41 degrees Fahrenheit, some food not held hot enough and failure to wash and properly sanitize containers and pans.

This is the second time the restaurant failed this year.

In June, it got a score of 52. Then, on the re-inspection, Chinese Buddha received a 96.

Now, five months later, the inspection score dropped more than 60 points.

The restaurant management had no comment.

A score of 33 is one of the lowest we have seen in recent years in metro Atlanta.

An inspector will re-inspect the restaurant later month. We’ll let you know what that new score is.
