ATLANTA — MARTA says its popular fresh market program will be starting up again next week.
The Fresh MARTA Markets launched in 2015 and provide “affordable, locally-sourced produce in neighborhoods considered ‘food deserts’ or areas where the availability of fresh food is limited,” a news release said.
“These markets not only serve our riders, but because of their convenient locations, they are a fresh food resource for entire communities,” MARTA general manager and CEO Jeffrey Parker said. “We are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle and these produce markets enable us to bridge the nutritional gap from the convenience of our rail stations.”

Beginning June 30, the markets will open Tuesdays at the West End station, Wednesdays at the Bankhead and H.E. Holmes stations, Thursdays at the College Park station, and Fridays at the Five Points station.
The market opening hours are 3 - 7 p.m.
MARTA says all staff will be wearing masks and gloves and will regularly sanitize workstations.
The transit system is asking customers to wear a mask or facial covering while shopping, maintain a distance of six feet from others, and request all produce from a staff member.
The markets accept cash, credit, debit, and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT)/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is doubled at the market, meaning $5 swiped is $10 to spend.
