ATLANTA — MARTA and the city of Atlanta are partnering up to relieve traffic on Atlanta highways by using a new bike sharing program.
Bikes and bike racks have been added at different MARTA stations.
Officials are hoping people will use bikes and bike racks that are now available to ultimately alleviate traffic.
Officials with MARTA and the City of Atlanta kicked off the program by riding the bikes themselves. They rode from Colony Square to the Arts Center MARTA station.

Officials said using the bikes is affordable. The cost can range from $1 to $5, depending on how long the person wants to use it.
Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes spoke to the city commissioner of planning about how he is going to make sure the streets are safer for people to ride the bikes.
"We're building a lot more bike lanes that are protected," City Planning Commissioner Tim Keane said.
Officials also said they know bike sharing is relatively new to the people of Atlanta but say once people get used to it, it will be essential to the city.
“That is our future," Keane said. "The past is people driving everywhere for everything, and we know where that got us. Our future has to be different, and bikes and transit are the center of it."
"In the coming years, Atlanta needs to shift everyone from driving to more and more people using bikes and transit."
