HHS Secretary discusses health of Black Georgians

ATLANTA — The White House’s top person on public health was in Atlanta, addressing the health of Black Georgians.

The Urban League of Greater Atlanta hosted the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Monday afternoon in northwest Atlanta, along with Georgia lawmakers.

The panel is looking into what is being done to improve healthcare.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said they’re also working to improve the mortality rate for black mothers and infants.

“Look, we’re going to stand up for these dual programs. If you or your daughter is thinking about having a baby, know that you don’t have to wait until you’re close to that delivery to get that care,” Becerra said.

Becerra said they are working to keep people covered as rules change after the COVID-19 pandemic and reduce drug prices.
