Crime puts Atlanta neighborhood on edge

ATLANTA — Neighbors are fed up as police look for a gunman caught on surveillance video robbing people in their own driveway.

Surveillance video from Sunday morning shows a person wearing a hoodie who ambushed two men in the driveway with a gun.

He holds the gun on one man and forced them away from the surveillance camera and then robs them.

“It’s just sad, it's really sad, you hate to hear it happen,” neighbor Liz Hill said.

About two weeks ago surveillance cameras recorded this person suspected of breaking into cars in the same driveway.

“They're really nice people and they definitely don’t deserve something like that, and I’ll definitely be more vigilant,” Julie Coleman said.

The recent crime in the Reynoldstown neighborhood have residents taking precautions.

“Now I definitely have the lights on to make sure my windows are always locked,” Coleman said.

The armed robbery is the second crime at the same house in less than two weeks.

Video obtained by Channel 2 Action News shows someone with black gloves breaking into a car in the same driveway.

Hill says there is a private neighborhood patrol service that neighbors pay for. She says it has helped residents feel safe.

"We had a 60% decrease in petty crimes," Hill said.

Channel 2's Matt Johnson reports the neighborhood has seen nine car and home break-ins so far in Reynoldstown in March.
