ATLANTA — For decades, Sprite soda has been recognized for its green cans and bottles.
But now, Atlanta-based Coca-Cola is retiring the iconic color.
Coke said it wants to be more environmentally friendly by making the bottles for the soda clear.

Sprite’s current plastic bottles contain an additive that can’t be recycled — but clear bottles can.
“Taking colors out of bottles improves the quality of the recycled material,” said Julian Ochoa, CEO of R3CYCLE, which is working with Coca-Cola to create the new bottles.
The change is expected to take effect Aug. 1.
