ATLANTA — Atlanta-based Coca-Cola is cutting 2,200 jobs around the world, including 500 in metro Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The soda giant has been suffering amid the COVID-19 pandemic because of closures of bars, restaurants, movie theaters and sports stadiums all over the world.
In October, the company slashed 200 brands in its portfolio as a cost-cutting measure.

The cuts will be made through a combination of buyouts and layoffs, a spokesman told the Wall Street Journal. In August, the company laid off about 4,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada through voluntary separation packages. It’s unclear how many of those employees were in Georgia.
Atlanta employees were told this week that their jobs are being eliminated, but they will be allowed to apply for other positions. A spokesperson declined to tell the AJC what sorts of jobs were being affected.
Coca-Cola had about 4,800 employees at the end of 2019.
