Clinic steps in to help clients stranded after tattoo removal shop closes

ATLANTA — The founders of a defunct tattoo removal clinic told investors each location should eventually expect more than $1 million in annual revenue and a 40 percent profit margin.

Now clinics in Dallas, Houston, Phoenix and Atlanta are shuttered.  The clients are out thousands of dollars.

"I go to the Channel 2 Action News app and I see, 'Tattoo removal place shuts its doors abruptly,'" recalled laser clinic owner Mark Slater, on Channel 2's Jim Strickland's story on the closing of Dr. Tattoff in Buckhead.

"Not only can't (clients) get their treatments, they can't get their money back, and now their emotions are anger, frustration and abandonment," Slater said.

"I paid for a package and I didn't know what to do. I mean, I gave them all my money and they're just not there anymore," Sara Dimauro said. %

She had two tattoos removed from her hands at Slater's The Fountain laser clinic.

"After everything that happened, it's been so chaotic. I'm just grateful to be here now," she said.

Slater's clinics in Smyrna and Johns Creek are offering former Tattoff clients one free treatment and discounts on additional visits needed.

"These people are trying to help themselves and they're not in a position to spend thousands of dollars and not get the service," Slater said.

"I'm grateful for The Fountain stepping in and helping us, after dishing out all that money with no results," said former Dr. Tatoff client Marie Rohner.
