The cheers echoed throughout Atlanta City Hall Tuesday.
Channel 2’s Aaron Diamant spoke Tuesday with Mayor Kasim Reed, who said he was excited that Atlanta had won the bid for another Super Bowl.
"I mean, I'm thrilled. This has been a long time coming. I'm really so happy for Arthur Blank and for the Falcons organization," Reed said. "After I finish this interview, I'm going be on the telephone doing a lot of whooping and hollering and high-fiving and thanking folks."
Diamant also spoke exclusively with Ambassador Andrew Young, who helped seal the deal for Super Bowl LIII.
"We've been on the move for 50 years. I'm almost ready for it to start slowing down, but it won't slow down, because we do too many things right," Young told Diamant.
"It really was just a combined effort. Everybody played their part and we really got a terrific result and I think the people of Atlanta are going to be amazing hosts for 2019," Reed said.
Reed told Diamant he's most excited because the big game will mean millions for the city's and the region’s economy.
"You've got the game. Now the real work starts, right?" Diamant asked Reed.
"Yeah, I mean, now we have the game, we've got a ton of work to do to prepare and then I know that Arthur is going to be ready trying to make sure the Falcons are in the Super Bowl by 2019," Reed said.
But Reed's term as mayor will be up long before that Super Bowl kickoff, leaving another detail to work out.
"Where are your seats?" Diamant asked Reed.
“You know what? I'll probably be walking around like a vagabond, but my successor will have some nice seats," Reed said.
We're glad Georgia is on your mind, @NFL. Welcome to Atlanta, #SB53. Looking forward to 2019. #SBSelection https://t.co/TjdL1MLYSP
