ATLANTA — Police say a Atlanta police officer was hit by a drunk driver as he conducted a traffic stop on an I-20 exit ramp early Sunday morning.
Police say an accident happened at Flat Shoals Road around 3:06 p.m. The officer was on the shoulder with his patrol car’s lights on and wearing a reflective vest when he and the car were both hit by a red Chevy Tahoe.

The Tahoe kept going.
The officer was able to describe the vehicle on his radio. DeKalb County police pulled over the SUV near Rockdale Ave.
Police arrested Antaun Mcheerron, 25, on charges of reckless driving, hit and run, DUI, failure to report and accident, expired registration, failure to maintain lane and striking a fixed object.

The officer he hit was taken to the hospital and is stable.
Mcheerron is in the Fulton County jail.
