Atlanta Humane Society rescues nearly 20 animals from Ga. home

ATLANTA — Atlanta Humane Society crews rescued nearly 20 animals in south Georgia.

Animal Protection Unit was deployed to rescue 18 animals that AHS officials say were living in filth.

Crews found animals left outside, chained to the sides of a house and trees in the yard without food or water.

When crews walked inside the home, AHS officials said they found eight cats locked inside a windowless bedroom with no litter box in sight, only dirty newspapers.

According to AHS, the property owner had several previous charges and worked with the police department to voluntarily surrender the animals.

Police have not identified the property owner; however, she will be tried on animal cruelty charges in court.

After being assessed by a veterinarian, all 18 animals have been brought back to Atlanta to recover and eventually be put up for adoption fully.

“This morning, these animals faced an unimaginable life, but now they’re safe and on their way to partner organizations to heal,” organization leaders wrote on Facebook.
