Berry College honor student, Will Fortner, was born prematurely and underwent a kidney transplant at the age of 15. His father was his donor.

Most recently, Fortner had four surgeries at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to remove his colon due to having ulcerative colitis.

The Braves, which is Fortner’s favorite team, rewarded him for his determination and loyalty.

On Saturday, the baseball team invited Fortner and his family to attend the Braves vs. Phillies game. They also took part in the pre-game batting practice.

“You can never count the Braves out. Even when they’re down in the seventh inning, they always seem to find their way back,” said Fortner. “That is kind of how my path has been. I never give up, despite being behind in the seventh.”

He celebrated his 20th birthday last week.

Children’s public relations coordinator, Kelly Thompson, said: “This young man is a true hero to everyone he meets, especially his team at Children’s where he’s received all his care since shortly after his birth.”
