ROSWELL, Ga. — Patrick Maynard, 22, of Alpharetta is accused of exposing himself to several people at the Roswell Creek Apartments.
Police told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik it's a problem that happens more often than most people know.
Maria Vazquez lives in the complex and tells Petchenik she witnessed police searching for the flasher last week.
"That's dangerous for the neighborhood," Vazquez said.
Police told Petchenik someone saw a man in a Jeep Cherokee driving through exposing himself.
"She was able to get the tag number, call the police. Our detectives followed up and located him," Officer Lisa Holland with the Roswell Police Department said.
That led police to Maynard, who turned himself in to detectives.
"The detective showed him a lineup, series of photographs, and she positively identified him," Holland said.
Petchenik went to Maynard's home for comment, but nobody answered the door.
Holland told Petchenik cases like this aren't uncommon.
"They do happen frequently. Unfortunately, a lot of them do go unreported," Holland said.
Holland said she can empathize with victims.
"It has happened to me and my son in my own neighborhood," Holland said.
She said like many victims of this kind of crime, she was caught off guard.
"It's very offensive, especially when you have a child with you," Holland said.
In addition to visiting Maynard's home, Petchenik also left him a voice mail. So far he has not heard back from him.
This is Maynard's first arrest in Fulton County, but records show Cherokee County deputies have arrested him before on drug charges.
