8 questioned in Chamblee Quik Trip shooting

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Eight people are being questioned by police after shots were fired at a Chamblee gas station.

Channel 2’s Jessica Jaglois spoke with police about the shooting at the Quik Trip on Buford Highway.

Chamblee police said a fight between two groups of people started at a nightclub down the street and continued in the parking lot of the Quik Trip.

"We're not sure what the altercation was all about. We just know that there was a fight in the parking lot that resulted in someone pulling out a weapon and shooting," said Capt. Ernesto Ford with the Chamblee Police Department.

Around 4 a.m., an off-duty DeKalb County sheriff's deputy heard shots being fired from inside the gas station.

When he went outside to investigate, he said he spotted a BMW and Dodge speeding away.

Chamblee police pulled those vehicles over, searched them and found two AR-15s a Glock, police said.

“The seriousness of it is the type of weapons that were used. These are assault rifles in a congested area, highly populated area. That's a big concern of ours,” said Ford.

No one was hurt but Ford told Jaglois as many as eight people were questioned and their hands were swabbed for gunpowder residue.

Police are waiting on results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to figure out who fired those shots before they make any arrests. They also want to see if any of the weapons had been used in a crime.
