STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — A 51-year-old Martin woman was arrested Sept. 7 after deputies seized about six ounces of suspected methamphetamine and $1,522 in cash in Stephens County.

Tameka Williams faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine following a multi-month narcotics investigation.
The arrest stemmed from an investigation launched in June by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit.
Authorities said Williams allegedly picked up large quantities of methamphetamine while traveling between a residence in Martin and various locations across the state before distributing the drugs within Stephens County and surrounding counties.

Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit saw Williams leaving her residence in Martin at about 1 p.m. on Sept. 7.
After authorities said she committed a traffic violation, deputies stopped the gray pickup truck she was driving on North Red Hollow Road.
When deputies asked Williams to get out of the vehicle, they saw her trying to hide a plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance.
Deputies also detected the smell of marijuana, and Williams admitted to recently smoking and being under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the investigation, deputies confirmed the bag contained suspected methamphetamine. Williams then removed five additional plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine from her person. Deputies and narcotics agents conducted a field test, which yielded a positive result for the Schedule II controlled substance.
Each of the six bags weighed approximately 28 grams, or one ounce and appeared divided equally for sale. In addition to the about six total ounces of suspected methamphetamine seized as evidence, deputies located and seized $1,522 in cash from inside the truck.
Stephens County Sheriff Rusty Fulbright credited multiple law enforcement units for collaborating during the multi-month operation.
“We are committed to curbing the flow of illegal drug activity in Stephens County,” Fulbright said. “I want to commend our CSU deputies and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) agents for their hard work throughout this investigation. We are fostering a Safer, Stronger Stephens by getting another individual off the streets thanks to their diligence.”
Williams was taken to the Stephens County Detention Center without incident. She remains at the jail pending a bond hearing before a Stephens County magistrate court judge.
