DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Driving tricked out cars and trucks, hundreds of mourners gathered to remember Anthony Angeles at a vigil Thursday night.
The 19-year-old died early Monday morning when a truck he was riding in, collided with a Georgia State Trooper patrol car at the intersection of Mountain Industrial Blvd and Hugh Howell Road in Tucker.

At the time of the crash, the trooper was in pursuit of driver in another vehicle suspected of illegal stunt driving. GSP said the truck Angeles was riding in was also involved in illegal stunt driving.
“They were completely at fault. A kid died because they didn’t do their jobs. The GSP has protocols. They can’t just blow through a light. They have to slow down,” said one attendee at the vigil.
DeKalb police arrived at the vigil to enforce traffic and crowd control and prevent those attending the vigil from block traffic. At least one person was taken into custody, although it is unknown if he was arrested.

Mourners gathered around a memorial of flowers and balloons to pay tribute to the teen killed.
“He meant a lot to our car community. We all loved him. Every time we had a meet or takeover, we all showed up for him. And he showed up for us. So tonight we are here to show up for him. He loved to make people smile, loved to make people laugh and never wanted to see anyone upset,” said friend Sabre Vanhoi.
The Georgia State Patrol released a statement extending its condolences to family and friend of the teenager killed.
“We know there will be questions about how this happened, and we share the responsibility of making sure those questions are answered. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash and the circumstances leading up to it. At the same time, the Office of Professional Standards is conducting an administrative review of the agency’s response, including the actions of the troopers involved and whether applicable policies and procedures were followed. In accordance with standard agency policy, the trooper involved in the crash has been placed on administrative leave while those reviews are underway.”
