CONYERS, Ga. — Convicted killer Tasmiyah Whitehead was granted parole 12 years into serving a 30-year sentence.
Channel 2 Action News reported when Tasmiyah and her twin sister Jasmiyah were convicted for killing their mother, Nikki Whitehead and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Court records show Tasmiyah was released on parole on Aug. 5. State parole records show she’ll finish her parole on May 19, 2040.
The twins were convicted in 2014 after killing their mother in January 2010 when they were still 16 years old.
Tasmiyah took a plea deal in exchange for a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter, rather than face a murder charge. Jasmiyah took the same deal as her sister.
Jasmiyah is still incarcerated, and Georgia Department of Corrections records show Jasmiyah is eligible for parole in March 2028.

During the 2014 trial, the twins’ grandmother Lynda Whitehead said her daughter was “stabbed 50 to 60 times and was brutally killed.” She was angry that the twins were offered a prison sentence and potential for parole.
“You offer someone 30 years with parole?” Lynda said at the time. “It is like she is not important, she is the victim, it is like no one is concerned with what happened to her.”
