GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police are trying to figure out why a man shot four relatives, killing his niece and nephew, before turning the gun on himself Tuesday.
The victims were 19-year-old Andre McLean and 13-year-old Kayla Serrano.
Channel 2's Darryn Moore talked with a former neighbor of the family who considered them close friends.
“They were nice people they didn't bother nobody they spoke they were neighborly and everything,” Jack Johnson said.
It was a tragic end for family members inside this apartment on Bannor Lane in Gwinnet County.
Emotions ran high after gunfire erupted in double murder/suicide.
Police they do know a family dispute led to the gunfire.
Investigators told Channel 2 Action News 30 year-old Brandon McLean shot and killed Andre McLean and Serrano.
“There’s nothing bad you can say about the kids they were doing good in school....maybedude just snapped,” Johnson said.
Police said McLean also shot and injured his mother and his aunt, before he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Something was going on inside his head and he just took all his anger and frustration out on the family,” Johnson said.
Johnson said McLean stayed to himself and rarely spoke to anyone. Police said they’re looking into his background searching for a possible motive.
They said he had no prior history of violence.
