2 arrested in 1991 fatal shooting of child

ATLANTA — Atlanta police announced they have arrested two men for the 1991 murder of 11-year-old Jeremiah Anderson.

Police say the shooters were trying to rob a group of people in the neighborhood gambling.

According to police, Anderson was playing with his friends along Martin Street in southeast Atlanta when he heard gunfire.

Anderson tried to run away, but was shot in the back and died instantly.

Jeremiah's mother, Betty Anderson, who now lives in Alabama, describes her emotions after Atlanta police told her about the arrests.

"When I called him this morning I was really happy that they found my son's killer, because it has been 25 years." Anderson said.

Channel 2 Action News had the only camera there as police took Raymond McDaniel into custody.

McDaniel is now paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a shooting a couple years after the death of Anderson.

Police also arrested Roderick Clark.

Atlanta police Detective Vince Velazquez says Clark and McDaniel had been on his radar for years, and he finally has enough evidence to arrest and charge them both with murder.

Velazquez says Channel 2 Action News' coverage of the crime was crucial in helping investigators put together a timeline of what happened.

Velazquez hopes these arrests send a strong message.
